As the Austrian Competence Centre for Tribology (www.ac2t.at), we have been developing technical-scientific solutions around the topics of friction, wear and lubricant application for 24 years.
The limited regenerative capacity of articular cartilage represents a major challenge in medicine, particularly in the context of an aging population. Within this context, novel biomaterials such as hydrogels offer promising opportunities for cartilage repair.
As part of the advertised PhD thesis, novel hydrogels will be developed to contribute to cartilage regeneration. A unique aspect of the project is the use of an advanced in-vitro biotribological test system. The PhD position is shared with the University for Continuing Education Krems, with 15 hours per week to be spent at each institution.
Activities:
* Synthesis and optimization of hydrogels for cartilage repair
* Evaluation of biocompatibility and chondrogenic potential
* Design and execution of in-vitro biotribological experiments under controlled conditions
* Analysis of friction, wear, and electrochemical behavior
* Interpretation and presentation of results, including publication in scientific journals
Requirements :
* Relevant university degree (MSc or equivalent) in materials science, physics, biomedical engineering, mechanical engineering, or a related field
* Interest in biomaterials, hydrogels, and interdisciplinary research at the interface of engineering and life sciences
* Knowledge in materials characterization, tribology, and/or cell/material interaction is beneficial
* Independent and structured working style, analytical thinking, and problem-solving skills
* Ability to work in an interdisciplinary team and good communication skills
Our offer :
* Fixed-term contract for 3 years, possibility of permanent employment
* Working hours: 30 h/week
* Start: possible immediately
* Minimum gross salary: € 2,786; any additional payment depends on relevant professional experience and qualifications
